Create a Unique Disc with Plant Material:

Bear Grass Disc.

During a recent visit to New Zealand, Marie Françoise Déprez, Floral Designer from France made discs from Bear Grass to incorporate into a design.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Firm Cardboard
  • Double Sided Tape
  • Clothes Pegs
  • Four pieces of foliage from Phormium cookianum also referred to as New Zealand Mountain Flax. Remove the firm centre stem from flax foliage and shred flax into narrow strands.
 
 

STEP 1:

Cut a round shape from firm cardboard, remove a small round piece of cardboard from centre and cover cardboard shape with double sided tape.

Double-sided tape, Cardboard & Scissors.        

 
 

STEP 2:

Remove protective paper from double sided tape and begin to wind flax around cardboard.

STEP 3:

Continue to wind flax around cardboard disc and fasten if necessary with pegs.

STEP 4:

Continue to bind more flax around cardboard until desired thickness.

Bind until desired thickness is acquired.  

When the disc is completed incorporate it into a modern design.

The illustrated design includes mitred flax flower stems, Muehlenbeckia astonii and the disc.
