South Canterbury Designer of the Year 2009
‘Creative Energy’ was the title for the 2009 Designer of the Year competition hosted by the Waimate Floral Art Group in Waimate. Entries in the Open section numbered eleven and were floor standing designs while the table top designs in the Novice section featured two entries.
Winner of the Zoe Staite Trophy for the winning design over all entries was Viv Tumaru of the Waimate Floral Art Group, while the Joan Stuart Cup for the winning entry in the Novice section was won by Barbara Watt of the North Otago Floral Art Group.
The winning design which also won the colour award, featured berzelia buds and beads wound on a wreath of assorted grasses to frame a contemporary design in shades of pink and purple, lime through to deeper shades of green. Flowers included magnolia, antique roses, green chrysanthemums and foliages were incorporated into the design.
