Floral Christmas Ramble 2010

The restoration of a former church now located at Bushtown Historic Park in Waimate was assisted by the local Floral Art Group who decorated three homes and the Church for public viewing as a community fundraiser for this project.

Each home was decorated in keeping with its era, with floral designs suitable for pre-Christmas entertaining while the church suggested the season of Advent.

Parsonage Road
This house was built in 1920. At a later time referred to as "The Rectory", as it was owned for many years by the Education Dept and became the residence of a number of Rectors of Waimate High School. The current owners since 1996 John and Shirley Abraham have developed the garden into a peaceful haven featuring mature trees, roses along the front of the house and a secret garden.

"Rosefield House" Shearman Street
The home of John & Sandra Coles, Mayor and Mayoress of Waimate. This Edwardian character villa built in 1912 features beautiful stained glass windows and ornate plaster work.

"Alangale" Maytown Road
The home of Allan and Gail Laurie on the outskirts of Waimate was built in 2003. Allan is Chairman of the Bushtown project and is passionate about the planting and nurture of trees. The bare land was purchased in 1994 and extensive tree planting and landscaping has been undertaken by Allan and Gail since then, including the planting of 5000 native plants in the environs of the house.

Bushtown Church
Originally the Otaio Presbyterian church; this was built by the Martin family in 1913 and closed in 1971. In 1973 the Waimate Rotary Club purchased and shifted it to Waimate and modified it for use as the Girl Guide Hall until 2007. In 2008 it was moved to Bushtown where it is to be restored to its original church status.
