Flora Australis 2009

The New South Wales Floral Art Assn in conjunction with Garden Expo Australia hosted Flora Australis, an International Floral Extravaganza.

Over seventy members from the Floral Art Society of New Zealand attended this floral event, held over three days at Sydney Olympic Park. Demonstrations and workshops conducted by highly qualified International designers were popular and well supported.

Some of our New Zealand designers competed in a selection of the nineteen floral art classes offered, with success in six of these classes. Judging was undertaken by a panel of six qualified judges and included FASNZ National President Heather Hammond.

Two special prizes were won by New Zealand designers.

>> Most Innovative Design in the show won by Rae Baxter -Central Southland Floral Art Club with her design
‘Dancing in the Moonlight.’

>> Best use of Colour in the show won by Liz Chapman-Geraldine Floral Art Group with her design
‘Whispers of the Wind’

Class Definitions:

Imposé
A class, exhibit or design title in which all components, usually identical, are supplied to each designer. All the supplied components need not be used.

Mobile
A suspended style of design with perfect balance, consisting of individual parts, capable of free movement within the design induced by air currents or artificial means.
