World Association of Flower Arrangers USA Inc

FASNZ National President Liz Chapman along with a contingent of FASNZ members enjoyed either competing in a variety of classes, attending workshops, viewing the wide range of floral designs or meeting and sharing ideas with fellow floral artists from all over the world at the World Flower Show in Boston, USA.
Each WAFA member country is invited to stage a non competitive design to portray something of their homeland. Each design is to illustrate something of their country’s culture, lifestyle, floral design style and plant material.
Liz Chapman, FASNZ President was given the privilege of creating the New Zealand Honorary design. Liz decided to depict New Zealand as ‘clean and green’, choosing to do a contemporary design using minimal plant material, The emphasis she placed on space in her design, reflected her rural environment in New Zealand.
The main component was dyed green flax sisal, constructed using the ‘glue soup’ method. Handmade paper mâché covering a polystyrene shape, formed the second component. Only two varieties of fresh plant material were used, phormium and carnations.
