Assorted Conference Photos

Below you can see a random selection of photos taken during the conference, or by the organising committee as they prepared for the 2009 'Art Beat Aoraki' FASNZ Conference.

They include photos from the parade of ‘wearable art’ hats as featured at the Timaru Rose Festival as well as a selection of masks from the studio of Donna Demente in Oamaru. The large masks paraded on poles by secondary school mannequins featured larger than life lacquered papier măiché masks while Donna’s beautiful face masks were paraded by primary school pupils.

The outdoor sculptures and the floral designs in the hall are included in this assortment. At the final night dinner, the vivid dining table designs created an impressive and warm welcome. The horizontal designs featured papier măiché covered blocks connected by black rods threaded with either yellow, orange or lime green cards to match the covered blocks and each of these were complemented with three large chrysanthemums of the same colour; each design featured an overlying branch of South Canterbury Area’s beautiful black beech to create a really stunning effect. A black table runner accompanied by matching serviettes at each place completed the setting.
