Conference Workshops
During the 2009 FASNZ Conference held in Timaru South Canterbury, 270 registrants attended workshops learning new techniques and concepts as well as studying the salient points for designing beautiful traditional line designs that originated in the post-war era.
Below are some examples of the designs created at the various workshops.
Mask Making: Tutor - Donna Demente, Oamaru. Feathers, beads, paint and other embellishments to create fantastic masks to use in a variety of original ways.
Contemporary Jewellery: Tutor - Janthia Holt, Nelson. Use of natural plant material to create an iconic piece of jewellery.
Transparency: Tutor - Jenny Harris, Christchurch. Creating a transparent wire container and adding a few garden flowers that can be changed from season to season.
Traditional: Tutor - Merle Snell, Hamilton. A popular workshop learning the skills of creating these ageless designs.
Fibres: Tutor - Dawn Davenport, Tauranga. Discovering textural contrasts and exciting colours with fabric, wool etc combined with flax as the only fresh plant material.
Roll it Up: Tutor - Dorothy Turner, Taupiri. A wall scroll with dominant textural interest.
You Wood if You Could: Tutor - Roseanne Armstrong, Nelson. A contemporary design using a block of wood as the medium.
Creative Collage Tutor: Tutor - Elaine Brighouse, Taupo. An innovative permanent design combining natures textures with the designers treasures.
Sculpture: Tutor - Shirley Russ, Christchurch. Combining driftwood and the altered natural growth of plant material to create sculptural forms.
