Francine Thomas

Francine Thomas’s theme evolved around a soldier returning from World War I, with the joyful expectancy of starting a new life with his family on land offered to servicemen as a Soldier Settlement Scheme near Wanganui. However farming in an area over the Bridge to Nowhere, was hard and difficult and the land remote. Finally the weather and nature won the battle seeing many families leaving the area much worse off than when they arrived.
