Workshops
This year the diverse variety of workshops offered many choices, from a full day ‘Marae Experience’ where the cultural traditions and protocols of the Maori people when working with flax and other indigenous plant materials could be learnt, to church decoration and environmental art in the school grounds.
Classroom workshops included Poi-E which offered a chance to experiment with several techniques and ideas to enhance spheres of varying sizes. Innovative ideas using the threading technique were evident in the designs; ‘Through the eye of a Needle’, while a contemporary cascade interpretative design, ‘River Magic’ included modern concepts to portray the allure and beauty of the Whanganui River.
Tutors for workshop photographs shown below were:
'Through the Eye of a Needle' Annette Waller Geraldine
'Poi-E' Lois Montgomery Te Puke
