"Wild Inspirations from Asia"
The Floral Art Society of New Zealand were most appreciative of the Nippon Flower Designers’ Association’s generosity in sending one of their young talented and highly qualified designer’s to share her skills and innovative concepts with their members.

Sumie Ishikawa from Yokohama, Japan has won many awards including a semi-finalist position in the Japan Cup 2009. Sumie gave an inspirational demonstration adopting the theme associated with this conference ‘on the wild side’.
Using New Zealand plant material with Japanese touches such as incorporating speciality Japanese papers into some of her designs, Sumie created floor standing designs, table top designs, bouquets and designs descending from above.
The audience were enthralled by this talented designer who through her interpreter explained different aspects of her designs, depicting in one design ‘happiness’ written in Japanese calligraphy as she was happy to be here; this was evident in her relaxed manner and warm smile, a very gracious visitor.
