‘Clippings’
A vehicle where more experienced floral artists from the FASNZ Canterbury and South Canterbury Areas could meet, was implemented by members of Floral Art North Canterbury as an extension Group.
'Clippings' was created, to challenge participants as they explore new trends and ideas in the exciting world of floral art. Members who have passed a Unit test or Certificate of Practical Design are eligible to attend the workshops held two or three times a year. Two members take a turn to organise and lead the day’s programme where new designing techniques are attempted, ideas and information shared while enjoying a day of hands-on floral designing and stimulation with neighbouring floral art friends.
'Circles' Workshop 2008
Members were asked to work on a design that included a circle(s), e.g. a circle, a ring, a hole to look through-not a ball. There were many different ideas, materials and textures used in an interesting variety of circles innovatively incorporated into each design.
Weaving Wonders or Branching Out 2009
'Weaving Wonders' could incorporate wire, pine needles, flax, ribbon, etc or take advantage of autumn branches for ‘Branching Out’. These instructions were received prior to a ‘Clippings’ meeting in the autumn. A busy day ensued with a variety of innovative ideas and designs to consider and view at the end of the day.
'Earth to Art' Workshop 2010
This was an exciting opportunity for Clippings members to participate in a work shop with Ruth Orange from South Canterbury, who shared her thoughts and ideas on an original concept she had worked with to incorporate clay into contemporary designs.
Included among the list of suggested requirements was a pack of DAS air drying clay, an off-cut of firm carpet, a piece of wire netting or similar. Tool box to include a leather punch strong enough for carpet, cable ties, phials, strong wire and a ceramic pot or driftwood for staging.
An interesting variety of designs featuring a clay supplement were created, using the carpet or wire cut to achieve a shape as a medium for supporting the moulded clay.
