Columns were created with sticks and stems, using the shape of the container as a guide. The placement of flowers and foliage was left to the discretion of the participants, but they were asked to keep these within the parameters of the design, or 'column'. Space was left within the design and a decorative sphere was added being careful not to upset the overall balance.
