"Swing into Spring and Reach for the Beach"
"Swing into Spring and Reach for the Beach" was the theme chosen for a friendly, swinging weekend hosted by the Warkworth Floral Art Group with members from surrounding Groups also participating. Workshops tutored by Ivy Wright from Pahia on Saturday and Dot Sykes of Mangonui Northland on Sunday, were enjoyed by all attending.
Saturday Workshop: An upright wire grid bound with raffia set in a sand filled slab vase was the base for this design. Some interesting designs were created on the grid using lightweight flowers, cascading greenery, shells, reeds etc for a pleasing effect.
Sunday Workshop: ‘A Spring Sandwich’ Dyed sphagnum moss was flattened between two wire netting shapes; sea shore treasures were also included on the sandwich, flat shells, sea weed, reeds etc. This was fastened together, manipulated into an interesting shape and staged on a spike. Spring flowers and other plant material were added to enhance the design.
Below you can see a selection of designs photographed at the workshops during the weekend.
