Northland Area Designer of the Year 2022
The Northland Area held their Designer of the Year in November last year, giving their competitions the overall title of '70s Party. This was a very appropriate title as two of the clubs, Kaitaia and Whangarei, had both celebrated 50 years during 2022.
The event was hosted by Whangarei Club and held in the Trigg Arena. Whangarei has used various venues over the years and this, along with its very obliging and helpful custodians, proved to be an ideal complex and enabled everything to be held in the one place. We included a plant and produce trading table as well, and this was very successful.
The judge was Nancy Murphy, who also gave us an entertaining demonstration from facets of her life and her overseas trips with FASNZ.
There were twenty entrants in four different classes, and with plenty of colourful flowers, the designs created a striking display.
Northland Area Designer of the Year 2021
‘Floral Pandemonia’ was the overall title for the Northland Area DOY competitions held at the end of October last year. Kaitaia Floral Art Club hosted the event at Te Ahu Centre, and entries were judged by Kerikeri FASNZ Judge Anne Mackay. The designs were then put on display for the public on the Saturday.
With months of planning, countless hours of perfecting designs, and a Plan B in case Auckland didn’t come out of Level 3, the four clubs which make up Floral Art Northland were delighted to be able to present their collective creative efforts to the public – a positive outcome for the Far North community.
The attending public were asked to vote for their favourite design, and this was presented to Pat Waters-Knox of the Kerikeri Floral Art Group at the conclusion of the event.
Designers in Northland have a reputation of creating innovative designs, and this year was no exception. The designers’ imagination and creativity showed diversity and originality, much to the delight of the judge, as well as the public.
A demonstration for floral art club members by Lynne Causer, entitled ‘A Floral Revolution’ was a fitting reward for the efforts of the designers, and a chance to watch another talented floral artist in action.
Northland Area Designer of the Year 2020
The Design of the Year 2020 competition for the Northland Area was held at Ramada Resort Taipa Beach and hosted by Doubtless Bay Club on 14 November.
The overall title was ‘Elements of Nature’ with subtitles for each individual section.
There were 26 entries from the four clubs in our Area, and these were judged by the delightful Dorothy Turner, assisted by Lynda Richardson. Dorothy also tutored a workshop the following day.
