Morrinsville Floral Art Club
Celebration 50 Years

Tuesday 12th July, 2021 was the Club’s 50th Birthday which was celebrated by 42 members, both past and present, at the Old Forge Café in Te Aroha West.

The day was filled with wonderful memories. Jill de Groot, our current President, welcomed everyone and outlined the day’s proceedings. There were many stories and happy memories exchanged of bygone years as well as an opportunity for current members to explain the new trends in floral art. Pauline Luxton and Pam Portegys, two of our Life Members, outlined the 50 years of the Club’s history and shared many humorous incidents that had occurred over the years.

The beautiful table designs were admired and all ladies were given a floral gesture to take home. We were very fortunate to have in attendance Margaret McDonald, our longest continuous serving member of 47 years and a Life Member. Margaret George and Claire Swney were members of the original committee, and the three ladies honoured us by cutting the cake for us (pictured).

Pictured also are our Past Presidents. Back row: Pauline Luxton, Kay Shallue, Jill Gardner, Margaret McDonald, Elaine Clark, Jill de Groot, Lyne Gilchrist, Lisa Van Noordt, Angela Wright. Front row: Jean Cave and Pauline Sexton

We were extremely fortunate to have as our guest demonstrator Francine Thomas (a world renowned demonstrator and international judge) who entertained us with beautiful floral designs and her wonderful sense of humour. Francine donated 6 of her 10 designs as spot prizes. The ladies were proud to take them home as a reminder of their day. Four of the table designs were also given out as spot prizes, which were well received.

Fifty years of floral art in Morrinsville is a wonderful milestone. The committee worked very hard to make it a successful day for all and, judging by the feedback, their goal was achieved.
